With the departure of Luis Antonio de Souza , the firm Souza, Cescon, Barrieu & Flesch Advogados changed its name and became Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados .
According to the firm, founding partner Luis Souza left due to “different views on the future of the office”. However, columnist for the newspaper O Globo Lauro Jardim and the website Brazil Journal pointed out that the split occurred due to the office's attempt to hire lawyer Esther Flesch.
A compliance specialist , she was one of those B2B Lead responsible for taking former Attorney General Marcello Miller to Trench, Rossi, Watanabe, where the two would negotiate JBS's leniency agreement with the Attorney General's Office. However, after it was revealed that Miller was involved in the case before leaving the Federal Public Ministry, both were fired from the bench. Esther's brother, Marcos Flesch, is the managing partner of Souza Cescon.
To ConJur , Cescon Barrieu stated that this version is not valid. "The office does not negotiate, nor does it intend to bring Esther Flesch to its staff, as previously reported.”
Without Souza, partner Alexandre Gossn Barreto became part of the office's name. In banking since 2001, he works in the banking and financial areas; capital market; business recovery; Fusions and acquisitions; investment funds; private equity ; technology and intellectual property; and project finance .
According to founding partner Maria Cristina Cescon , the change marks the beginning of a new phase. However, she makes it clear that the firm's principles remain the same.

“With 17 years of history, Cescon Barrieu has grown exponentially since its foundation and, in this sense, we have been able to evolve, year by year, the level of services provided. We are now at a level that allows us to continue institutionalizing the office. We changed the brand, but our vision, principles and values remain intact, maintaining the excellence of our services, for which we are recognized.
